IT’S ALMOST THE 19TH!
This means Disney+ has almost landed in New Zealand and because we’re not the UK, we don’t have to wait until March, 2020!
Celebrating this exciting time as the STREAMING WARS begin; Because Hulu and HBO Max aren’t really playing globally, and Netflix VS. Prime Video and whatever other random services exist regionally don’t count; We’ll take a look at some of the TASTY TREATS which may make Plus worth it (because $9.99 a month or $99.99 for the year isn’t enough!)
THE MANDALORIAN
AHAHAHA, LIKE IT WOULD BE ANYTHING ELSE.
I suspect the majority of us are jumping on to the D for that sweet, sweet new Star Wars lore from Jon Favreau which features the ridiculous notion that we want to see Pedro Pascal‘s face hidden under a mask.
Directed by a cadre of notable-directors, especially Star Wars alum Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian is lined-up to be the most exciting launch title Disney has on the Plus service.
NOELLE
Look I stan Anna Kendrick to no end cause she’s hot AF, funny and starred in Scott Pilgrim VS. The World which increases anyone’s credibility by at least 110%. Add in Bill Hader, who is just the best (on a personal scale that others may not share), and you have a great movie in the bank I reckon.
Except, as I said in my Last Christmas Review, I will absolutely lose my sh*t for a Christmas film, and what’s that you say? It’s a Christmas film??
DISNEY+ CONTENT OF THE YEAR.
HIGH SCHOOL MUSCIAL: THE MUSICAL: THE SERIES:
The title for this series pi$$ed me off to no end. It was a goddamn mouthful, and didn’t feel clear in its intention. I mean, the original film was just High School Musical, and then there was the tour, High School Musical: The Concert, and then the sequels, and NOW there’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
PHEW.
But then the trailer was cute, and it was about the school-location for the original film making their own version of the film in the form of musical, and then it somehow turns into High School Musical from there.
MAGIC.
SparkShorts
While already having had an outing on YouTube, it’s exciting to see this program come to Disney’s streaming service.
Designed to discover new storytellers within Pixar, and explore new storytelling techniques, it’s available at launch to make you cry like the majority of their films I guess.
Marvel’s Hero Project
Haven’t we all wanted to be a Super Hero?
Available at launch, Marvel’s Hero Project reveals the remarkable, positive changes several young heroes are making in their own communities!
Dedicating their lives to selfless acts of bravery and kindness, Marvel celebrates them as the true Super Heroes they are, with a Documentary series that is one of many on Disney Plus.
Avengers: EndGame
Yeah, I already have this on 4K UHD.
And in my Google Movies library.
BUT NOW A STREAMING SERVICE HAS IT TOO.
Because if you’re the House Of Mouse, you don’t stop flexing.
So flex Mouse, FLEX.
Honestly there’s going to be a tonne more.
Titled in a way that I can only see as similar to a video games seasonal subscription service, we’ll be seeing more released in ‘Years’.
Some of the stuff I’m looking forward to, like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is somewhere in Year One, whereas the Cassian Andor series is looking at release in Year Two.
And don’t even ask about the Obi-Wan series!
They’ve got plans and while we’re not fully aware of them yet, I’m sure they’ll have enough to uhh…cover the LOAD.
HECK, I didn’t even touch on their Fox properties!
Disney Plus releases in New Zealand on the 19th of November, 2019.
