Talk about a jazzy headline, right?
I don’t think I need to sensationalise it. We’re all tuning into the PlayStation 5 showcase, for one thing and one thing only.
BUGSNAX.
But also hopefully a tonne more from Sony and their beloved PlayStation console. Does it have a price? Does it have a release date? These questions and more are sure to be answered, so join us as we live-blog the event!
Look, I’m the first to admit I’m a puppy when it comes to announcements. It’s all exciting, new, fresh and boy…in 2020, cynicism really do be one of life’s current mains on the menu. So I will say I enjoyed the previous showcase thoroughly. But today’s showcase was definitely more bombastic in tonnes of ways. Leading with the latest iteration of a series whose name is now synonymous with PlayStation, it then showed the staggeringly gorgeous Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Somehow Insomniac have taken their already-gorgeous game, and made it look even better. Announcements of a few other titles coming soon, and some previous gen. titles to tide you over means we’re ready for the November 12th release date.
They also confirmed after the fact, that Demon’s Souls will be available on release.
AND GOD OF F*CKING WAR 2.
Pricing is competitive with the XBOX Series X and S, but the difference between the Full and Digital models is interesting. There’s a larger cost difference between the two, so we will have to wait on PlayStation to release their hardware specifications to fully understand this costing.
The announcement of their PlayStation Plus Collection is also a great move. This sees some of their best titles from the PS4, available for subscribers to play, to pad out some of the time between release and all the new titles the console will see in future. While there’s no more excitement in a year which needs it, the release at least hands off between generations tidily. And hey, they did end up confirming the release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales at launch.
