Wait…was Inuyasha a Dog Boy?
I think he was. He was definitely some sort of demon. And occasionally an emo.
SUCH WAS THE WORLD OF INUYASHA!
If you’d never stepped into it, you now have the opportunity to do so via the Complete Adventures box set or this ridiculous post I’m about to create.
And this post is going to be based completely off WHAT I REMEMBER.
WE JOIN KAGOME.
I don’t know how I still remember her name, but she is based in a present, which is probably our present, but it was the present at that time it was animated, so it’s not…our…present.
She also has a younger brother! And I think she stays with her Grandmother! I don’t remember her parents being there and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re dead as that’s a classic anime trope.
One day she discovers a portal to a past that is our past but also maybe not our past? And it doesn’t help her improve her present-day life which is very anti the classic anime narrative.
SHE FINDS DOG BOY!
And he has been arrowed-the-f*ck to a tree. Yes, after falling through said portal, and some journeying she finds Dog Boy. He’s mad, but sad because he’s part emo, part demon, and the arrows are magical BUT SHE CAN TOUCH THEM (and his heart…).
He also has a sick as f*ck sword called Tetsusaiga. I remembered how to spell it because I separated ‘tetsu’ and ‘saiga’, making it easy for my feeble brain to manage (note: it also goes by Tessaiga, but for what I watched, it was that!).
While he’s being a mad, sad boi, he joins Kagome on her travels through this world. Or she joins him. Either or they find stuff to do, like discovering the giant-a$$ skull of his dead demon dad.
His hot silver-haired brother then shows up with a sick as f*ck sword. I can’t remember his name, but only the 3 important facts about him: Hot. Silver hair. Sick as f*ck sword.
They also find Shippo! The annoying, cute chibi who can be merchandised into the f*cking sea because everyone will want a Shippo (and shipping Kagome and Inuyasha…).
There’s also trypophobia-hand man!
I legitimately forgot his name also, but I know he screams out “WIND TUNNEL!” and some sh*t goes down with him later in the series. But boy when he screams “WIND TUNNEL!” you’re excited cause it’s some weird, ferocious, magic sh*t that triggers more phobias than just trypo.
There’s also ‘EVIL VERSION OF KAGOME’S BROTHER’ and probably the main antagonist who I obviously didn’t care about because I can’t even remember who they are anymore.
AND DOG BOY CAN BECOME BOY.
I think it was to do with some lunar sh*t, which makes sense because he’s a dog? Albeit a demon dog, but you know dogs arr-ooo at the moon, so the lunar cycle obviously affects him. And then Kagome is like “damn, look at this emo boi bites lip” cause he loses his demon dog ears, nails and gets goth hair for days.
He also becomes incredibly weak, which is quite funny for someone who can wield the mighty Tetsusaiga.
I can’t remember what happens from there…
There’s definitely that antagonist of sorts. And some shonen sh*t goes down that involves more powerful swords, growth amongst the characters, drama and probably some more drama.
But I do remember loving it. There was just something about the story that made it memorable for me, and maybe it was Tetsusaiga. Or wind tunnel. Or magical arrows. Or some really weird familial sh*t constantly going down.
That was my experience with Inuyasha. Just the story about a priestess, a dog boy and their wonderful adventure.
