That’s right, I’ve sent MegaLou back into the trenches again!
And I think the misnomer is fitting. Embracing what the sound and/or effect of Whalefall is, starring everyone’s favourite new ‘white boy in trouble’: Austin Abrams.
Whalefall is one of the most unique films we’ve seen in ages.”
MegaLou are off to a banger start with their latest review of this feature. “This may sound weird, but it kinda feels like its own subgenre of body horror. It’s intense, uncomfortable and not for the squeamish”. If you haven’t seen the trailer, well you may peruse below:
You saw right, viewers. He is swallowed by a whale. “You’re literally staring at the inside of a whale and its various sphincters for a good chunk of the movie, and the film doesn’t pull punches (although said sphincters certainly receive a few!)”. You have to love a good bum joke. “Then, out of nowhere, it lands a few genuinely funny beats… mostly courtesy of the lead and his unmistakable high-pitched scream, often forced through a diving mouthpiece”. People have started making drinking games for a certain phrase he says in Resident Evil. So it’s no surprise his famous scream is back.
“Beneath all that weirdness though, there’s a surprisingly tender story about grief. A messy father-son relationship. And coming to understand someone only after they’re gone”. Damn. You really can find the answers to life in the belly of a whale it seems. Just ask Pinocchio!
It’s not what you’d expect, and certainly not like anything else we’ve seen, which is exactly why we think you should see it.”
There you have it folks. It appears that in their second Friendship Reviews, MegaLou have managed to find an endearing tale of grief in the heart of the whale. So if you’d like that and some body horror, well. Whalefall may have been made just for you!
Based off the conversation I had with them, it appears that they liked it a lot! Which is quite funny when the trailer leaves you wondering what the heck you've just watched. So thank you, MegaLou!
