I don’t know if I raved about Horizon Zero Dawn enough.
The Playstation Exclusive title was by far one of my favourite titles for 2017, providing gamers with a fun romp through a Mechanical-Jurassic Park of epic proportions.
Picking up before the final mission or elsewhere dependent on your save; The Frozen Wilds sends heroine Aloy to the Northern lands of the Banuk to find more answers about the machines.
And she’s going to be in for a cold reception…
Beyond the northern mountains, the frozen borderlands of the Banuk tribe challenge all who dare to enter.
In The Frozen WIlds, Aloy will travel to this unforgiving territory to investigate a new machine threat.
Enduring the harsh, new environment; Aloy will gain the allies, abilities and knowledge needed to uncover a secret from the past – while fighting for the future.
The nicest thing The Frozen Wilds does for you is immediately throw you into the fray with your first encounter.
Meeting 1 of 3 new machines immediately off the mark, it wastes no time in introducing a whole new world.
Snow-capped landscapes invite you in as you discover a whole new set of objectives and quests to be had.
Frozen lakes and new industrial areas bring new strategy to fights along with more platforming puzzles that have us explore more of the ‘Old World’.
While I say ‘A Whole New World‘, the familiarity of it is just as refreshing.
If much like me you’d maxed out your inventory and skills before the end-game, you’ll find yourself rewarded with a new level-cap, skill tree and new gear to find.
The grind for resources also returns, but I found the majority of what I had leftover from my main run catered to what the adventure required.
New things are always fun, but for me a lot of Horizon‘s success lay in the discovery of this world.
And The Frozen Wilds brings more of that lore to life with a whole new tribe to interact with and discover.
Learning about the Banuk’s beliefs and traditions of leadership, it continues to open up the wider world of Horizon Zero Dawn.
Getting 20 extra hours of play from a world I loved was an incredible gift from Guerrilla Games, and it helps reiterate that they have a complete handle over where to take this world next.
Summary
If Horizon Zero Dawn continues this way, then I need to return to that world sooner, rather than later!
BRING IT ON GUERRILLA!
