Life Finds A Way | HORIZON ZERO DAWN: THE FROZEN WILDS Review

I don’t know if I raved about Horizon Zero Dawn enough.

The Playstation Exclusive title was by far one of my favourite titles for 2017. It provided gamers with a fun romp through a Mechanical-Jurassic Park of epic proportions. While you can enter at any point from The Cut, developers recommend you reach at least level 30. The Frozen Wilds will then send heroine Aloy to the Northern lands of the Banuk to find more answers about the machines.

And she’s going to be in for a cold reception…

The nicest thing The Frozen Wilds does for you is immediately throw you into the fray with your first encounter. Meeting 1 of 3 new machines immediately off the mark, it wastes no time in introducing a whole new world.

Snow-capped landscapes invite you in as you discover a whole new set of objectives and quests to be had. Frozen lakes and new industrial areas bring new strategy to fights. And more platforming puzzles have us further explore the ‘Old World’.

While I say ‘A Whole New World‘, the familiarity of it is just as refreshing. If like me you’d maxed out your inventory and skills before end-game, you’ll find yourself rewarded with a new level-cap, skill tree and gear to find. And the grind for resources also returns. But I found the majority of what I had leftover from my main run catered to what the adventure required.

New things are always fun, but for me a lot of Horizon‘s success lay in the discovery of this world. And the wilds brings more of that lore to life with a whole new tribe to interact with and discover.
Learning the Banuk’s beliefs and traditions of leadership, it continues to open up the wider world of Horizon.

Getting 20 more hours of play from a world I loved was an incredible gift from Guerrilla Games. And it helps reiterate they have a complete handle over where to take this world next.

    10 BRING IT ON GUERRILLA!

If Horizon continues this way, then I need to return to that world sooner, rather than later!

They’ve given themselves a really good leg-up this generation with some fantastic exclusives, it’s true!
