If you follow gaming or streaming, I’d like to think you know about Nanoleaf.
While there’s countless smart lighting and RGB solutions out there, you just know a good Nanoleaf product when you see it. Whether it’s the Elements or Canvas range, or the highly popular Shapes range, you just know it’s going to be good.
But what the heck is a Nanoleaf product if you’re not into gaming or streaming? Well it’s a damn robust and simple lighting solution for your home or office space! With any set you purchase, you’re able to create your own unique layout thanks to the modular panels. This means you can lay them out however you want, then use the supplied linkers to supply power and programming from the controller. All pretty simple to be honest. The hardest thing about the setup was deciding HOW to set them up!
Because they’re modular.
This means if you pick up, say the Triangle Starter Kit and Hexagon Expansion Pack, you then get to decide how to lay it all out. Now I don’t know about you, but I definitely overthink things so trying to figure out how I wanted the shapes to come together was slightly stressful to think about. Thankfully though the mounts supplied with your kit, of which can be replaced, is similar to another friend of the home: Command strips! Producing an easy way for you to take down and rehang any shape you feel is out of place, each kit even supplies an extra bit of it in case you feel you messed up the layout. And these connect to a mounting plate which provide a satisfying snap to lock them in place, along with the ability to rotate the piece to the position you want.
Linkers are simple little bits of hardware that connect each shape to one another. Yes, it’s almost like it’s in its name. Depending on the shape, each side has a place to connect the linker, which only needs to go to one piece at first. Then you snap them into place on the wall as you link and build your shape. These shapes were even so tough as to allow me to slightly raise them to remove and move the linker elsewhere.
Easy!
From there, it’s time to sink into your new RGB world as Nanoleaf illuminates your life. The controller will allow you to change brightness, the current colour pairing, a shuffle mode, or the insanely fun ‘Rhythm’ mode. Rhythm tells the Nanoleaf to open its taringa and listen to any audio or music which may be playing around it. From there it will then dictate how it responds, and produce a fitting light show for your pre-gaming antics. While I assume its for pre-gaming, I won’t stop you if you tried to take them out to the clubs because yes, you probably would be pretty cool with your Nanoleaf in tow.
I always assumed Nanoleaf was going to be “good”.
But you can never beat getting that actual experience of setting it up at home. From ease of use, through to the quality and lighting solutions it provides, I get it now. Nanolef got to the front of the pack for lighting, and never gave up the spotlight.
